City Name
History:
|
The
reservation town was established in 1913 as Saluskin in honor of Chief
Saluskin of the Yakima tribe. In 1915, it was renamed for J.T.
Harrah, operator of the area's largest ranch and the community's main
source of income. Until his death in 1917, the chief berated the
business pressure that caused the switch in names and referred to the
community as Thief Town. |
