City Name
History:
|
Named
Indianola Beach in 1916 by a development company because the land was
originally an allotment grant to a member of the Port Madison band of
Indians. Postal authorities rejected the double-word name and called
the post office Kitsap after the Indian Chief. In the late 1950s the
post office named was changed to Indianola, the one-word, common-usage
name for the community. |
