City Name
History:
|
Originally
called Brown's Flat after Reuben A. Brown, who settled there in
1884. With establishment of the post office in 1902, residents voted
in favor of the suggestion of George T. Richardson to change the town's
name to commemorate the Civil War victory of the Union's iron-clad Monitor
over the Confederate's armor-plated Merrimac. |
