History:

Established
as Scammon after J.L. Scammons, an 1852 donation land claim settler on
whose land the county seat town is situated. His wife, a devoutly
religious woman, requested that the town be renamed Mount Zion. The
present name is a more pleasant sounding compromise with much the same
meaning. |
