seat named for Joseph M. Pomeroy, who platted the town on May 28,
1878. Pomeroy was typical of many Washington settlers. In
1850, at age 20, he migrated from Ohio to Illinois, in 1852 to Oregon, and
in 1863 to Dayton, Washington, where he operated a stage station and
became a rancher. |
