City Name
History:
|
While
no factual explanation exists as to the name's source, the community
generally believes that it was named by the daughter of railroad magnate
James J. Hill. Supposedly, when the pair stepped off the train
during a brief water stop and found that the spot had no name, Hill
suggested that the girl christen it. She chose the present name
after a city in the East, but which one is unknown. Approximately
15 states have communities named Quincy; the first was named in Maine in
1792 for Col. John Quincy, while others adopted the name as an honor to
President John Quincy. |
