Settled
in 1871 by William W. Perrigo and Luke McRedmond, the town was first
called Salmonberg because of the large number of spawning salmon that came
up the Sammamish Slough. It was renamed Melrose for Perrigo's former
home town in Massachusetts, and finally Redmond after McRedmond, who
platted the townsite in 1891 and served as its first postmaster. |
