Native-Americans called the trail junction site Kleopus, meaning
"valley of the cliffs"; early prospectors called their tent
city Eureka after the gulch in which the first gold strike was mad, but
when the county seat town was platted in 1896, it was named for the
Republic Gold Mine. |
