History:

Platted
as the townsite of Wallace in 1890 because of its location at the
confluence of the Wallace River with the Skykomish River. To avoid
misdirection of mail to Wallace, Idaho, the logging town was renamed in
1901 for George G. Startup, manager of the Wallace Lumber Co. |
