History:

Town
founded in 1851 and the adjacent lake derived their name from the
Native-American word tchil-ac-cum, meaning "pink flower,"
which was the name of a Native-American village originally located at the
townsite. The village was variously recorded as Chelakoom, Chilacoom
and Chielcoom and its chief's name was reported to be Tail-a-koom. |
