History:

The
island was originally named Vashon's Island by Vancouver on May 29, 1792
to honor his close friend Capt. James Vashon of the British Navy, who rose
from lieutenant to commander for his heroics against rebel vessels during
the American Revolutionary Way. Two communities, Vashon and Vashon
Heights, are named for the island on which they are located. |
